At NORA, we believe clean, safe rivers are the heart of a healthy community. That’s why we’re excited to share an important update on our efforts to protect and restore the Nolichucky watershed.
In partnership with MountainTrue and the Swim Guide program, NORA volunteers are now conducting weekly water quality testing at popular recreation sites throughout the region. Our dedicated team of community members is monitoring sites along:
The Toe River
The Cane River
Three key locations on the Nolichucky River
The spring-fed community pool at Rock Creek State Park
All Locations Pass!
We’re happy to report that all of these sites have passed their most recent water quality tests and are considered safe for swimming and recreation. This is great news for families, paddlers, swimmers, and anyone who enjoys the incredible natural resources of our region.

Play It Safe and Support the Cleanup
While the water is testing clean, we do want to remind everyone to recreate safely and responsibly. Due to the impacts of recent flooding, some areas may still have debris in and around the water.
NORA’s volunteer teams are out weekly, removing flood debris, improving river access, and working to make our outdoor spaces safe and beautiful again. Your support helps us continue this important work for our rivers and our community.
If you’d like to help us keep the Nolichucky clean and safe, you can donate here:👉 https://www.nolichucky.org/
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered, donated, or helped spread the word. Together, we’re making the Nolichucky cleaner, safer, and more accessible for all.
See you on the river!
